Learn How To Thrive On Routine
Today, I want to ask you: Are you seeking more routine and structure in your life? Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by daily tasks or aiming for a more balanced lifestyle, establishing a routine can make a significant difference.
Routine is at the core of my philosophy, encouraging a sense of calm both at home and in life. Our family thrives with structure—through morning rituals, cleaning schedules, daily organisation, restyling sessions, bedtime practices, workout plans, and Sunday traditions. After incorporating daily, weekly, and monthly routines for some time, I’ve seen the positive effects on my children as they grow.
The greatest advantage is the clarity that comes from knowing what to expect. This awareness allows us to be more present in our daily lives, enhances our productivity and creativity, and gives us the freedom to prioritise what truly matters.
In the home, routines create a rhythm that simplifies tasks, enhances productivity, and nurtures a peaceful atmosphere. Whether it’s starting the day with a morning routine, winding down with an evening practice, or getting the kids ready and out the door on time, integrating routines can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling lifestyle.
5 Benefits of Establishing a Daily Routine in Your Life and Home
Increased Productivity: A solid routine helps you get things done efficiently. You know what to expect, so you can tackle tasks without wasting time deciding what to do next.
Reduced Stress: When you have a routine, life feels more manageable. You’re less likely to feel overwhelmed because you have a plan for your day.
Better Time Management: With a routine, you can allocate your time more effectively. You’ll find it easier to balance work, chores, and downtime, making sure nothing gets neglected.
Enhanced Well-Being: Routines can promote healthier habits, like regular meal times, exercise and a good nights sleep. This consistency helps improve both physical and mental health over time.
A Sense of Control: Having a routine gives you a sense of stability and control in your life. You’re actively shaping your day instead of letting it dictate itself, which can be incredibly empowering!
Three helpful tips to get started:
Identify Your Goals and Priorities: Start by defining what you want to achieve with your new routine. Whether it's keeping your home organised, creating a more peaceful environment, or improving your overall well-being, clarity on your goals will guide your routine's design. Just start with one. Example kids bedtime routine, a morning routine for yourself like meditation or a stretch before the day actually kicks off.
Start Small and Build Gradually: Begin with manageable changes that align with your goals. For example, if you want a tidier home, start by dedicating a few minutes each day to decluttering. (Research suggests that it typically takes around 21 to 66 days for a new behaviour to become automatic and form a habit. We want routine to become a habit!) As you become more comfortable with the routine, you can add more tasks or increase the time you dedicate to each.
Stay Consistent and Flexible: Consistency is key to forming a new routine. Try to stick to your plan as much as possible, but also be flexible and willing to adjust as needed. Life can be unpredictable, so allow room for modifications without losing sight of your goals.
