Girls Bedroom Tour
Today I share with you my daughters bedroom tour! I recently added a few new additions to her room and changed the layout to suit her growing desires and needs. Which included painting the drawers, adding a desk, extending her Ikea bed and adding another rug!
When it comes to bedroom design for the kids, I always ask myself these questions.
Q. How to do I want them to feel in their room?
A. Safe and happy.
Q. How can I create that?
A. Through warm and comforting colours, patterns and a mixture of textures and finishes. (Such as wool, linen, wood, brass..)
Q. How can I reflect their personality in their room?
A.Get them involved with the selection of colours and textures. (Once narrowed down and chosen according to what you also want it to look and feel. Work together on something you can both agree on)
Q.What words describe the room I want to create?
A.Cosy, earthy, playful, whimsical, calm
Q. What is the accent piece to dictate the room?
A. Wallpaper and Rug (every room has a hero piece, from there it is easier to pick furniture, paint, artwork and textiles)
When we first designed and built Florences room, (you can see here how we turned it from a storage room into a bedroom) I wanted it to reflect her growing personality and be practical for her playing and sleeping and learning. The biggest thing for me, was making it her own ‘special space’!
When first designing this room I wanted to incorporate elements that I knew would continue to be relevant as she grew, such as a built-in seat which is practical no matter what age. Ben built this and you can see much of the process through video here. Currently she now sits in the nook and reads books or sets up dolly houses and plays.
Desk and Chest of drawers paint colour is Dulux, slow dancer.
The chest of drawers are also up-cycled, not the prettiest shape, but nothing a lick of paint can’t fix!
Pictured above. Florie’s painted chest of drawers opposite her desk. She has a lot of natural light throughout the morning, then it gets dark! The lamp, wall sconce and diffuser light adds the exact ambience and task lighting she needs for working at her desk or reading books. We diffuse in Florie’s room day and night. We love to use oils to promote calm and happy feelings and support sleep. Most of the oils we use in her room (despite the huge collection we have), are the oils in the classic bundle. Like peace and calming, orange, valor and more…You can see the bundle and our kiddies faves here.
