Our Garden Plants

There is something so rewarding and relaxing about tending to a garden, watching food grow from seeds, and seeing plants thrive over time. Ben is unbelievably passionate about plants, landscaping and designing, so he has been such a driving force for the regeneration and development of our garden.

When we first bought this house the yard was absolutely wild, more like a jungle than a garden! As much of a challenge as this was, it worked out in our favour. We found an amazing variety of plants; including the gem of our gardenβ€”the Avocado tree, that we salvaged which became the base for our garden now.

We created a nursery where we propagated new cuttings and nursed plants that we disrupted by moving them. As a family you know we love trying to do things the resourceful and sustainable way, so learning how to propagate our plants has been so key to the success of our garden.

We also propagated our own rosemary, lettuce and celery which kick-started our process of creating a Veggie Garden. You can read more about that here!

Over the past 5 years we’ve spent hours researching plants that are going to be suited to our coastal environment, how to build up the soil, how to nurse plants back to health and how to propagate offcuts etc. I will say it has become a true passion of Bens as he has self taught himself to landscape and garden.
