6 Steps to Slowing down
In the recent journals and newsletter, I discussed the pressures and hectic pace that often accompany this season, persisting for many right up until Christmas Day itself. Recognising the challenges that can arise, I want to offer a guide to help you gracefully transition into a more deliberate and mindful Christmas experience. By adopting a few simple steps, you can sidestep overwhelm and exhaustion, allowing yourself to fully savour the magic of the season in a more relaxed and meaningful way. Embrace these strategies, and may your Christmas be a time of genuine joy and connection.
"You call the shots. You can add or take away whenever you need to."
1.Create a Realistic Schedule:
The holiday season often brings a flurry of activities and commitments. To maintain a sense of balance and avoid overwhelming yourself, start by identifying your priorities. Consider what truly matters to you during this time – whether it's spending quality moments with family, participating in festive events, or simply relaxing.
Set realistic expectations for what you can accomplish. Avoid the trap of overcommitting to social events, work obligations, or additional tasks. Instead, create a manageable schedule that allows for breathing room. Leaving space for relaxation and spontaneous activities ensures that you can embrace the joys of the season without feeling rushed. (If you use essential oils like myself here are the oils I use or this) Oil for support- Believe, diffuse or apply one drop to palm of hands and inhale 10 deep breaths.
2.Practice Mindfulness:
Incorporate mindfulness techniques into your daily routine to cultivate a sense of calm and presence. Whether it's through deep breathing exercises, short meditation sessions, or moments of quiet reflection, mindfulness can anchor you in the present moment. This heightened awareness enables you to appreciate the small, magical details of the holiday season that may otherwise go unnoticed. Oil for support- Present time or Frankincense, apply one drop on your breast bone before practice.
3.Limit Technology Use:
Amidst the festive chaos, it's essential to take breaks from electronic devices and social media. Designate specific times to check emails and messages, allowing yourself uninterrupted periods to fully engage in holiday gatherings and activities. This intentional disconnect from technology not only fosters meaningful connections with loved ones but also contributes to a more relaxed and enjoyable holiday experience. Oil for support and connection, apply one drop of joy essential oil over your heart and or diffuse.
4.Delegate and Seek Support:
The holiday workload can be overwhelming, but you don't have to navigate it alone. Don't hesitate to ask for help and delegate tasks. Whether it's enlisting assistance with meal preparation, decorating, or gift wrapping, involving others fosters a sense of shared responsibility. Embracing teamwork not only lightens your load but also strengthens the bonds of community and togetherness. Oil for support and working smart, diffuse Rosemary, lime and lemon myrtle for focus and fun! Or apply kidscents genesis roller onto back of neck.
5.Embrace Simple Traditions:
Amidst the hustle and bustle, focus on the beauty of simple traditions that bring genuine joy. Whether it's baking cookies, watching a favourite holiday movie, or taking a leisurely stroll to enjoy festive decorations in your neighborhood, prioritize activities that resonate with meaning. These timeless traditions create lasting memories and contribute to the heartwarming spirit of the season. Oil for support- Diffuse Christmas spirit and apply grounding or peace and calming on your wrists. (with a little carrier oil)
6.Prioritise Self-Care:
In the midst of holiday preparations, it's crucial to prioritize self-care. Ensure you get enough restful sleep, fuel your body with nourishing foods, and engage in activities that bring relaxation and joy. Taking care of yourself physically and mentally is not only an investment in your well-being but also a key factor in creating a more enjoyable and fulfilling holiday season for yourself and those around you. Oil for support- Diffuse joy and jasmine and add 2 drops of peace and calming or lavender to your bath salts.
