FAQ’s about Oils
You’ve asked, I’ve listened — below these Frequently Asked Questions get answered!
1. What are oils?
An essential oil is actually a highly concentrated plant component, rather than an oil. They can be distilled from various parts of a plant, including leaves, flowers, fruits, woods and seeds. They provide support for every system of your body!
+ skeletal system + muscular system + circulatory system + endocrine system + hormones + respiratory system + immune system + brain health + healthy weight + emotions as well
2. What do we use oils for?
For just about everything!! Whether you are looking for oils to help you sleep, for natural immune system support, for energy, for focus, for relaxation, for your kids, for natural alternatives to cleaning products, the list is endless, there is an oil for that!! And you will learn along the way, there aren’t hard set rules, but part of joining our oils team is that you get access to the most amazing resources; our private facebook community.
3. Why Young Living?
The quality! There are many reasons why we chose Young living but number one is the quality and purity! They have been producing essential oils and paying the way forward to Low Tox products since 1993. Owning the majority of their own farms guarantee purity of their oils. The bottles contain 100% essential oils with no filler, synthetics, fragrances, chemicals or dilution products.
Young Living practices a unique Seed to Seal® quality process that goes beyond the current organic standard in many ways to guarantee the purity and potency of every oil. Each batch of oils is rigorously tested in house for therapeutic viability; they are so confident in their products that you can actually visit the farms and participate in the harvest/distillation process. Unfortunately the essential oil industry is self regulated, Companies can put any filler or additive into what they call an “essential oil.” Most of what you find at the grocery store contains additional ingredients or has fillers in it. Young Living is the leader in the essential oils movement - with Young Living’s “Seed to Seal” The purity of essential oils is vital to not only their effectiveness, but their safety as well.
They are 100% Essential Oils, farmed without pesticides or chemicals. Hand weeding farms cost $1.200 per ache to farm, Whereas farming with pesticides only cost $60 per ache. (That is scary!) Essential oils are rich in molecules that help carry oxygen, nutrients, and other substances through the cell membranes. Combine essential oils with impure or toxic substances, and they will take those poisons right into every cell of your body. Young living Essential oils are safe for the entire family, they are farmed at a standard that exceeds the rating of ‘organic.’

4. Are all Oils made the same?
Unfortunately not all oils are made equal. So to answer your question, no! The purity of essential oils is vital to not only their effectiveness, but their safety as well. Essential oils are rich in molecules that help carry oxygen, nutrients, and other substances through the cell membranes. Combine essential oils with impure or toxic substances, and they will take those poisons right into every cell of your body.
5. How do we use oils?
There are three ways to use our Young Living Oils, Aromatically, Topically and Internally. Aromatically- Diffuse, directly inhale or inhale through a hot bowl of water. We often choose the method of diffusing over applying topically or ingesting because it is extremely effective! Breathing in oils has the ability to boost our mood, reduce stress, clear brain fog, make us happy, support our emotions and empower our health! You can experiment and make combinations that will benefit you. Topically- Many of Young Living oils can be applied topically to your skin to experience the benefits, either diluted with carrier oil or neat onto the skin. Each individual oil has instructions on the label for use. Always follow the guidelines and instructions given on the label. Internal- Some essential oils can be used to add flavouring to your favourite food or beverages. Always read direction on label to which Essential oils can be suitable for flavouring.
6. How fast do oils work?
It takes 22 seconds for the molecules to reach the brain. Within two minutes they will be found in the blood stream. Within 22 minutes they will affect every cell of the body.
7. How will I learn how to use the oils in my kit?
You’ll get plenty of reading material with your kit, but as mentioned above, you’ll get access to our exclusive facebook community full of amazing resources like how to use each oil in your kit, which oils to avoid around kids or while pregnant/nursing, and all of the dilution ratios for individual oils. MANY people have successfully used Young Living oils and products for years around and on dogs and cats with zero issues. 13. What is a carrier oil?
Carrier oils are an essential part of your essential oil journey! They have different consistencies and benefits. How do you know which carrier oil to use? It’s easy... use what you like best! Below are a few things to know about each of the most popular carrier oils. I mostly always use a carrier oil to “carry my oils further”. Helps them last longer and also get into your skin better! (I buy most of mine on Amazon - I search organic or my local Wholefoods)
Jojoba Oil comes from the seed of the jojoba plant. Jojoba oil is commonly found in facial and hair products, because it works to seal your skin with a protective barrier to keep your skin from losing moisture. This oil has been said to mimic the skin’s natural sebum which means your skin won’t recognise it as something foreign. Instead, reacts as if it’s something your body naturally produced. This makes it a great option to use in your DIY serums and moisturisers. Jojoba oil has a slightly nutty aroma, is gentle, moisturising, and absorbs quickly.
Fractionated Coconut Oil is found in the meat or kernel of coconuts. It is a universal favourite probably because most people already have and use it in the kitchen! Research shows that topical application of coconut oil can benefit the skin in many ways. Coconut oil has no noticeable aroma, is high in essential fatty acids, and absorbs well. It will leave your skin feeling silky and moisturised, without being overly greasy. A little goes a long way when using coconut oil.
Sweet Almond Oil comes from the kernels of sweet almonds. This carrier oil has a slightly sweet and nutty aroma, with a thicker consistency. It is very moisturising for the skin, hair and nails, making it an ideal choice for your DIY lotions, hair masks, and cuticle oils. Like Grape Seed oil, Almond oil is rich in Vitamin E, but it also contains oleic acid which is especially beneficial for dry or ageing skin.
V6 Vegetable Oil Complex is a perfect mix of different carrier oils into one. It contains coconut oil, sesame oil, sweet almond oil, wheat germ oil, sunflower oil, and olive oil. This is a great option for everyday dilution, custom massage, or your favourite DIY recipes! V-6 can do it all, its light, non-greasy, and absorbs quickly. (Young Living Product).

You are the gatekeeper of your home! Consult a health professional if your baby or child is sick.
Heavily dilute a new essential oil following the guide above and perform a spot test on your child’s arm or leg. If no reaction occurs after several minutes, the oil is probably okay to use.
Wear essential oils on your skin to help your kids acclimate to the fragrance.
Some essential oils can be challenging to a baby's sensitive system. We recommend caution when you use these essential oils with your infant. Hyssop, Sage, Clary Sage, Wintergreen and Eucalyptus.
15. DIFFUSING AND DIFFUSERS-
Did you know indoor air quality is five to seven times more toxic than outdoor air quality?! This is mainly due to conventional cleaners and synthetic air fresheners. Synthetic fragrances added can contain a mixture of hundreds of chemicals and are known to emit harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Research shows that some VOCs can irritate your eyes, nose and throat; create difficulty breathing; and cause harm to the central nervous system and other organs. In the winter, people tend to stay indoors, trapping all the poor-quality air inside. Instead of emitting harsh toxins in your home and making your air quality worse, try diffusing essential oils. Diffusers are like miniature humidifiers that emit a mist infused with essential oils into the air. Diffusing essential oils makes your home smell amazing, helps purify the air, and gets rid of unwanted odors.
We often choose the method of diffusing over applying topically or ingesting because it is extremely effective! Breathing in oils has the ability to boost our mood, reduce stress, clear brain fog, make us happy, support our emotions and empower our health! You can experiment and make combinations that will benefit you.
And lets face it, diffusing is SO FUN!! You get to make your home smell amazing with different oil choices everyday!

DIFFUSERS-
Diffusers are not one size fits all. It is important to pay attention to how they work and how may square feet they cover.
Ultrasonic Diffuser:
These also create a fine mist like the nebulizer, but they work in a different way, using electronic frequencies to create ultrasonic vibrations that break up the molecules for distribution. These use a mixture of water and essential oil, which means that you’ll be diluting the potency of the essential oil upon use. Plus, because essential oil is corrosive to plastic it needs to be cleaned regularly to keep it running smoothly. However, there is a humidifying aspect to using this type of essential oil diffuser, so it’s great when the weather turns chilly and dry. Adding moisture to the room is important during cold and flu season.
Nebulizing Diffusers:
It works by using pressurized air and oil. A stream of air blows across a small tube, creating a vacuum that pulls the oil to the surface of the tube where it is blown away in a fine mist.
Heat Diffusers:
These work in the same way as evaporative diffusers that use a fan to release the essential oils, but they use heat instead. They are relatively inexpensive and quiet, but they can change the chemical composition of your oils when they are heated. Some use higher levels of heat that can make the scent more intense, but this defeats the purpose when you are trying to get essential healing benefits. Lower levels of heat can keep things subtle without changing the compounds too much and still make your home smell good.
Evaporative Diffusers:
These work just as you might suspect from their name. As the essential oil evaporates, it is released into the air as it turns from liquid to gas. These models usually use a small fan that blows air past the oil, causing it to evaporate at a faster rate than normal. One drawback is that as the essential oil evaporates, the lighter components will disperse faster than heavier components, making it difficult to get the complete benefits of the oils. Evaporative essential oil diffusers are typically the least expensive and are good for those who just want a burst of freshness on occasion.

DIFFUSING FAQ
Q: How long should I diffuse at one time?
A: While I’ve seen differing recommendations and times, I have never found any research to back those. Most of us run a diffuser until it shuts off. Some of us have had them going for years almost non-stop.
Q: How often do you clean your diffuser and how?
A: Read the manufacture warranty info. Most say rinse and wipe out your diffuser after every use. This will help minimize the essential oil buildup. Deep clean your diffuser 1-2 times a month. I use rubbing alcohol.
Turn off and unplug your diffuser.
Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and swab to clean all areas of the diffuser.
Add essential oil of choice to the atomizer and diffuse away!
Q: I diffused and got a headache. Is it hurting me? Should I stop?
A: Whether or not you continue is completely up to you. We certainly can’t tell you what is happening since your health is the result of many factors all coming together and we don’t have all the pieces. It is highly likely that the smells triggered emotional responses and/or began to detox your body. The most common detox symptom is a headache. It is a great time to drink lots of water and start looking for some great ways to add extra punch to your antioxidant efforts. Ningxia is perfect for this! Also consider if you have stopped using perfume, toxic cleaning products and maybe eating something you shouldn’t. I would start slow and less amounts.
Q: I really don’t like the smell of a certain oil even though I know I need it.
A: You can totally decide how to move forward with this. You can discontinue use of that oil and use others more pleasant to you. Many, many times this is the result of an emotional response. The body throws a hissy fit because the oil is triggering a release of emotions and you are not ready for change. This causes the oil to stink. Some choose to use the oil on their feet until it becomes more pleasant to help their bodies work through the needed changes. It may become a favorite! Up to you! It might also help to rename the oil! For instance if you don’t like the smell of Digize rename it to “tummy relief”!
