Outdoor Shower
The walkway which joins the front garden to the back garden is truly my favourite part of the garden! It feels like an oasis with the towering lush tropical plants that planted and weathered grey deck. The only thing that was missing, was an outdoor shower! We live five minutes from the beach and enjoy to spend as many weekends as possible there. So an outdoor shower was definitely a great solution for keeping our home sand-free after a beach day!!
Things that we considered and requirements we wanted:
Practical
Private
Hot and cold water
Seamless to its surroundings
Platformed
Suitable for guests and kids
Since the laundry is located at the back of our home and where we keep ‘beach items’, it seemed most practical to have the shower located in this area. Along with that, the area is extremely private incase one wanted to take off their bathers…😜

We loved the idea of having an outdoor shower fitting seamlessly into our landscaping, something that you don’t really notice unless you’re looking for it. Which is architectural in design and really a statement piece when acknowledged.
We have both hot and cold plumbing which is definitely a practical feature, especially as we use the shower year-round. It provides a convenient space for the kiddies after going to the beach or playing in the garden, while also minimising sandy mess inside the house. Win Win!!!
We sourced our shower from Robert Plumb. An investments but so worth it!!
We recently added a shower rack and hooks that we made from Tasmanian oak. This absolutely finishes this area off with the details! I had my eye on one which was $200!! So Ben made one for $15. (keep reading to see how) It's always great when you can save money by making something yourself, especially when it turns out just as good (or even better) than something you could have bought. Tasmanian oak is a beautiful wood which we sealed with Cutek high performance oil. It will eventually weather grey. It's those little finishing touches that can really make a space feel complete.
These are our favourite linen beach towels. They’re lightweight, quick to dry, fold into any bag and wrap into a sarong when needed.

DIY Shower Rack
One metre length dressed Tasmanian oak. 45mm x 30mm
Overall Dimensions for the outer rectangle - H- 45mm L 210mm w 140 mm, using a Forstner Drill Bit 16mm, rabbet joined the corners, glued and clamped overnight.
Dowel is 16mm D
The interior middle dowels are inset 5ml each end. The two outer dowels are drilled the whole way through with an extra 40mm in length to insert into the wall.
After we glued and clamped we installed the rack using a masonry drill bit and fixing in place with liquid nails. We then applied one coat of cutek high performance oil to seal it. It should weather grey nicely.
We love to use glass pump bottles for our hair and body wash. My fave pump bottles linked here, how to make your own toxic free body wash linked on this post.
DIY Shower Hooks
There are three components to the hooks.
The base piece is 32 mm diameter dowel cut to 40mm in length
The hook upright is 16mm diameter dowel and is inset 10mm and glued, with another 15mm sticking out for your “hook”
The wall insert ‘fixing point’ is 16mm diameter dowel, this is inserted into the back of the base piece 10mm and glued then sticking out another 30mm to “fix” into the wall securely
Final touch, lightly sand to take off cutting edges.
