Outdoor Kitchen Reveal

I am thrilled to announce the completion of our dream long-awaited outdoor kitchen! Our family truly embraces the indoor-outdoor lifestyle, and one of our favourite activities is gathering around the grill, where Ben showcases his culinary skills several times a week. Before starting any project, we do what we can to prepare before we start, which is something we preach about a lot. For us, this involves engaging in detailed discussions and sketching out ideas on paper, which is often during meal times and kids in tow. If you're curious about our design board, planning process, and the materials we used, you can find all the details in our latest posts.

While meticulous planning is crucial, it is equally important to maintain flexibility and an open mind throughout the project. We understand that unexpected challenges can arise, and we strive to adapt accordingly. (always with you guys watching of course…) Fortunately, in the case of our outdoor kitchen, the only minor setback we encountered was accidentally cutting the ventilation larger than intended, and not allowing enough depth for the soft closes. Nevertheless, we quickly rectified the issue with a simple fix. You can see behind the scenes and watch us here.

It’s equally important to remain flexible and open-minded throughout a project because you’re never immune to the unexpected. Thankfully, with this project, the only slight miss-hap was cutting the ventilation accidentally larger and not allowing a few mm for the soft closes. All of which was an easy fix. You can see behind the scenes of how we made the here.

Something that has surprised us is how well the kitchen flows. I mean, I designed the layout to flow, and you hope it’s going to work out the way you think, but it’s better than we could have imagined. The stone island, to prep and prepare, the grill being the centre feature and even the sink and fridge placement whilst looking out onto the garden. Everything just works, and so far, only after a few uses already, it’s a true joy to cook out there.

WATCH BEHIND THE SCENES HOW BEN MADE THE DOOR FRONTS USING MARINE PLY

Like I was saying earlier, being flexibility and open- minded when it comes to projects is a good thing. Initially we were going to add concrete sheeting onto the marine ply door fronts (pictured above on the left), but as the project progresses we decided it was too heavy. So we decided to make our own using Marine Ply!

To make the drawers we used Hafele 204 x 500mm White Soft Close Drawer and the base is marine ply.
