Simple, effective, and thoughtful ways to transform spaces in your home to align with your style, values, and goals. A thoughtful collection of our home projects, Hutchinson House.
Outdoor Living Area
We very much live an indoor-outdoor lifestyle and it has been a dream of ours to create an outdoor space that is seamless in design, practical for our family, comfortable to entertain and gather with friends, and a place to escape, relax and reset.
We knew an outdoor seating area was going to help us achieve that.
Guest Ensuite
The time has finally arrived to renovate the guest ensuite! To say I’m excited is an understatement. This is the only room in our home that has been untouched since we moved in 5 years ago and untouched from the first owners in the 1950’s. Thats right, original tiles, shower, basin and loo, everything is original! Yikes this is going to be a fun project and amazing before and after to share with you. The ensuite is small and narrow measuring .9m x 2.7m, see below for some shock horror photos!
Guest Ensuite Concept Board
Ok, ok, ok... The demolition part of renovating a bathroom is alway fun to see, but this part of course is my favourite. Before we start any project, we sketch a plan then I create a vision concept board.
Pantry Remodel
We have lived in our home for 5 years and only 10 months ago we completed our much desired dream of remodelling our pantry. This was the first project I didn’t take you along for the journey, and kept the pantry remodel a complete secret. And i’m certain I shocked you all with the spontaneous reveal on Instagram! Well, don’t worry I got all the juicy details of the pantry in this blog post.
Coffee Table Styling
Coffee table styling is honestly one of my all time favourites! A coffee table exists for function more than anything. You need a place to put your drinks, remotes, snacks After all. But the table is also an opportunity to create a vignette in your living room.
Florence’s Bedroom
From a storage cupboard to a beautiful bedroom for Florence, this is one BIG transformation I’m so excited to share!
Outdoor kids play area
We have always wanted an outdoor play area for the kids where we could nurture and encourage play-based learning. I had this vision in my head of a space for them to play cafes, Mummies and Daddies, read books, let off some energy on a trampoline, or build forts. (It is all about timing… and they are at the perfect age for this now!)
Teddy’s Bedroom Reveal
This is a HUGE transformation!! I know we all love a good before and after… so are you ready??
Our Garden
There is something so rewarding and relaxing about tending to a garden, watching food grow from seeds, and seeing plants thrive over time. Ben is unbelievably passionate about plants, landscaping and designing, so he has been such a driving force for the regeneration and development of our garden.
Organisation
I’ve always been an organiser, it helps me stay disciplined, structured and mindful. As I declutter my house it truely helps me declutter my mind! It also teaches my kids about what we do and don’t need, which is ultimately more cost effective as well. Organised spaces help us live more intentional.
The Laundry
This was the first ever renovation project that we documented and shared on Hutchinson House. Original 1950’s outdoor laundry room. We updated it to make it more functional for us as a growing family.
Shelf Styling
We recently added new countertops to our kitchen by replacing bamboo with stone. This has been a dream of ours since we purchased our home four year ago. '“A home takes time!” I cannot believe the transformation! (before and after of stone corner) Along with the new countertops, we made new shelving! I have always loved the composition of clean lines with the warmth and texture of wood. And with our white walls, and white countertops (Smartstone Amani Classico) it was a no brainer to add in natural elements of wood to balance all the white!
The Power of Paint
I LOVE paint! It’s so fun! It has to power to transform dull and dingy, to light and bright, ordinary and dreary to cheerful and lively, old and weathered to new and beautiful! And this is one of my most frequently asked questions, “What is the paint colours you’ve use in your home?” Here I reveal ALL of those details!
